South Gambia

Kunta Kinteh Island

This is a full day tour based on the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, the forceful migration of between 10 and 12 million people from the West African sub region to Northern America and Caribbean. Visit a variety of institutions relating to the slave trade. We will be crossing the mouth of the river from Banjul and drive on the North Bank to Albreda and Juffureh from where we shall visit Kunta Kinteh Island, the local Slave museum and the ancestral compound of Kunta Kintehⓘ - the central character in the book roots.

Pure Heart of Gambia

This is an intensive expedition that will take you deep (approx. 280 km) into the pure heart of Gambia – The Central River Region. Stay in a local lodge in Janjanburray. A walk around town will reveal a few historic buildings, including the old Commissioner's Quarter, a 200-year-old wooden house once inhabited by freed slaves. The British used the settlement as a base for commercial trading and missionary work. This part of the river is not salty but has turned into fresh water. Therefore, you will have a good chance to see more wildlife such as hippos and large chimps in the wild and different spices of monkeys. This tour will enable you to explore the countryside, the river Gambia and its history and culture.
